The Legion of Darkness was a team of various villains of different abilities and powers from across the galaxy and were considered the most dangerous group against the hero Factory. The Group was formed by the notorious Black Phantom, presumably at the behest of the Unnamed Villain and are the centre focus of the Breakout TV Movie.

Origins[]

The Legion of Darkness was formed years ago after the Hero Factory became a major presence in the galaxy. Black Phantom recruited fellow villains Thornraxx, Speeda Demon, Jawblade and Splitface at a robot repair shop used by the criminals, and informed them about his plan to take down the newly-formed Hero Factory that was endangering the criminal activities of villains across the galaxy. Interested, the four villains joined Black Phantom's ranks and planned an attack upon one of Akiyama Makuro's transport ships, which carried twenty-four recently created industrial robots from a Makuro Industries plant, under Black Phantom's orders. After Thornraxx took control of the cargo ship and landed behind a hill, Black Phantom had twenty-three of the robots reprogrammed to wander around the galaxy without any purpose, while the last robot was reprogrammed to work as Black Phantom's assistant, going under the name XT4.

XT4 was used to infiltrate Hero Factory and steal it's data, and to break Voltix and Toxic Reapa out of prison on Asteroid J-54. Splitface and Speeda Demon then piloted a hijacked ore freighter to the Asteroid, and Black Phantom arrived in a Drop Ship. When the Alpha 1 Team-sends Thresher-arrived in chase of XT4, XT4 saved Voltix and Toxic Reapa and initiated a mass prison break. As Von Ness let them escape, Splitface rigged the freighter's engines to blow and went with Black Phantom. All the Legion members escaped, and Preston Stormer and Jimi Stringer were nearly killed in the incident. The Heroes was so rattled that Akiyama Makuro closed Hero Factory. Black Phantom convinced the villains they would take Hero Factory, but in actuality he wanted them captured leaving him the destroyer of Hero Factory without any competition. The villains arrived, while Jawblade taking down the security systems while XT4 and Splitface went to the power core. After ejecting Thornraxx, Toxic Reapa piloted his ship with Speeda Demon and Voltix to the Assembly Tower. There they fought Thresher while Splitface and XT4 duelled Stormer. Thresher was defeated, and Black Phantom defeated Stormer until the rest of Alpha 1 arrived. In a chaotic battle Black Phantom's treachery was exposed by Stormer, causing the Legion to disband and get arrested with the exception of Phantom and Voltix, who went into hiding. All captured members were then stripped of their weapons and imprisoned at the Hero Factory's underground Villain Storage Facility.

Breakout[]

While the rest of the legion were imprisoned at the facility, Voltix and Black Phantom would go on to team up with an unnamed mysterious villain at an unknown point in time on a remote moon to which they divised their next plan of stealing the plans of the Hero Factory building so they can operate identically to how the hero factory does and create an unstoppable army of villains. Phantom ultimately decided that Voltix get intentionally captured so that he would be placed in the same compound that the Von Nebula's Black Hole Orb Staff resided in. As Voltix is escorted by Heroes William Furno and Daniel Rocka and set in his cell that begins to elevate, Voltix notices the Black Hole Staff and creates an electrical projection of Von Nebula that makes its way throughout the facility to activate the staff, causing a black hole tornado to crash through the facility's roof and disables all the prison cells, leading all of the villains in the Villain Storage Facility to escape through the portal and be sent to different parts of the galaxy to complete various tasks to keep the Hero Factory occupied.

Black Phantom would stealthily infiltrate the Factory. Once all the Heroes in the vicinity had departed, he would reveal himself. He would then seal off the building and begin modifying the assembly tower using equipment from Mission Manager Nathaniel Zib, whom he introduced himself to for mischievous purposes. While he commits his plan, each legion member is tracked down by the Alpha 1 team. After prolonged battles with initial hardships on the heroes, the Alpha 1 team individual successfully recaptures each member and brings them back to the hero Factory right in time to collectively defeat Black Phantom, who at this point has hooked himself to the Factory's power in the assembly Tower about to cause a chain reaction that would destroy the entire Factory, and everyone with it, however, he is ultimately stopped by Rocka and imprisoned. Little do the Heroes know, Phantom had already succeeded in obtaining and sending the plans to his ally at their unknown destination, who would go on to use the plans to create the Brain Factory. All members of the legion of Darkness have since then remained in custody, with the slight exception of Voltix, who manages to escape again but was ultimately recaptured. Since then, Phantom has been held in strict security and has refused to reveal who he sent the plans to. The Legion of Darkness remains defeated, with its members incarcerated, marking the end of its reign of terror.

  • The Legion of Darkness comprised seven of the Breakout wave's eighteen sets, each villain set centered around a different theme. Aside from the previous wave, Savage Planet, Breakout is the only wave to feature animalistic villains, Jawblade, and Thornraxx as a shark and wasp respectively.

  • Black Phantom borrows the core component of the set's structure from the previous titan villain Fire Lord from Ordeal Of Fire from 2011, forming a monumental improvement over the previous set's flaws, such as arm and leg jointed connections.
  • Black Phantom, Voltix, and Speeda Demon all share the same head mold featuring a wide jaw, pronounced uno brow, and connection points on the side of the helmet, which would come in Black, Lime Green, and Pearl Dark Gray respectively, for each villain set would use each uniquely.
